Info

Nick and Anne, Johannesburg, June 2015
Nick was born in DRC and moved to South Africa in 1992. Anne is French, she has been in the country for six and a half years. They met after she was offered the opportunity to work in South Africa. When he knew that his son would marry a white woman, Nick’s father had difficulties accepting it. But other members of his family were very supportive. Anne’s parents strongly opposed to the relationship at the beginning, mainly because of the preconceived ideas they had about African immigrants in France. But after meeting him, they accepted it. Anne and Nick admit that people in South Africa still have difficulties imagining that they are together when they walk in the street and often Nick is assimilated to a Black guy who is harassing a white woman, especially when venturing out of Johannesburg.
